Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Alex Dietrich was one of two F/A-18F Super Hornet pilots who encountered bizarre, gigantic Tic Tac aircraft that disappeared in front of their eyes in 2004. She was recently featured in an episode of 60 Minutes about an unexplained aerial phenomena report expected to be presented next month to Congress.

Dietrich was an aviator from 2003 to 2007 and taught at the U.S. Naval Academy for seven years. She pursued civil engineering for her undergraduate degree because “it is really hard science – literally hard.” However, she has been unable to develop a theory about what she precisely encountered 17 years ago.

According to 60 minutes, Dietrich was serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, around a hundred miles southwest of San Diego, when the incident took place. The cruiser USS Princeton, which was part of the carrier’s strike group, had observed on its radar multiple anomalous aircraft that could make descent around 80,000 feet in less than a second.

Dietrich and her squadron commander Dave Fravor were dispatched to investigate one of the mysterious aircraft. What took place next became known in UFO folklore as the USS Nimitz UFO incident.

Dietrich said her Navy career didn’t suffer after she and Fravor reported spotting the bizarre aircraft. Still, the two agree they would not have talked about it if they had been flying alone that day to avoid being ridiculed, sent for a psych eval, and had their security clearance taken away. But there were many people in the air and on ships tracking the strange object. There was no denying what had taken place, she said.
